Basque Audiovisual at the MIPCOM in Cannes

Some of the leading Basque audiovisual content producers will be at the MIPCOM trade show in Cannes in October this year.

For the third year in a row they will be grouped under the banner of Basque Audiovisual. The catalogue of products on show will include some of the newest, most successful formats produced in the Basque Country in entertainment shows, documentaries, animation, etc.

Although Basque audiovisual firms have been regular participants in the leading international trade shows and markets for decades, Eiken-Cluster Audiovisual de Euskadi set out to reinforce their role by encouraging them to participate jointly under the name Basque Audiovisual. The name has now been aired at numerous international events, and has consolidated itself as a recognisable identifying mark of audiovisual products made in the Basque Country. It also evidences the ability of firms to work together to achieve common goals.

For the moment the Basque delegation at MIPCOM comprises the following firms: 3Koma, Baleuko, Expressive, MediaBost, Pausoka, Retelsat, Western Films, Somuga, Audiovisual 21, K 2000, Moztu Filmak and Donostia Films. In the words of Itziar Mena, Head of Eiken “In these times of crisis our efforts are focused precisely on reinforcing support for the internationalisation of our firms as one way of tackling the uncertainties that we are facing”.

Basque Audiovisual will occupy a 39 m2 stand at the Palais des Festivals, which it will be sharing with its Galician counterpart Cluster del Audiovisual Gallego in an effort to seize the opportunity for co-operation between clusters. As it was at the last MIPTV event, the Basque Audiovisual exhibition area will be fitted out with audiovisual technology to exhibit the products of its member companies in the best possible light. A large-format touch screen will enable industry specialists to have all available information at their fingertips.

The Basque Audiovisual brand also has an online catalogue at www.basqueaudiovisual.com which has proved to be an effective way of making preliminary contacts and arranging meetings with potential customers and collaborators at the trade show.

In September an online promotion campaign will be set in motion with a mail-shot to thousands of contacts directly connected with the audiovisual industry worldwide. The idea is to encourage them to visit the Basque Audiovisual online catalogue, where they can find the contact data, an outline and a list of productions of each company.
